About Arise Arise is an a cappella (all vocal) music group that consists of five Christians from Texas. Their musical style is a mix of Gospel, Jazz, Praise & Worship, and Contemporary Christian. Simply put, they love God, music, and each other. That's why they continue to do what they do. And they are thankful that God has given them the gift of music so they can joyfully spread the good news of Jesus Christ and His love for us. The music Arise sings is designed to encourage Christians--both young and old--in their walk with God, and to introduce non-believers to the Gospel in a relevant way. Their prayer is that God will use their music as an avenue to strengthen and uplift those who hear it as much as it has strengthened and uplifted them. The members of the group are as diverse as its musical style. Brian Moody, who sings tenor and lead, is a music teacher and a worship leader. Evelyn Shewmaker works for the State of Texas Health Department in Austin and mainly sings alto. Missy Weaver, another music teacher, sings soprano in Arise. Jeanette Tackett sings soprano, alto, and lead; and works for Chase Bank in Fort Worth. Michael Tackett, former soundman for Acappella, sings bass in the group and creates web sites and multimedia for an advertising company in Dallas. Arise started in 1988 to sing for one concert at an annual praise music event in Austin. Since then, they have gone on to sing all over Texas and also in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Tennessee. They have sung for worship services, workshops, fundraisers, youth rallies, camps, and prisons; and have appeared in concert with several other groups including Acappella, AVB, and The Sweet Expressions. Arise has four albums to its credit (Arise, Closer to Heaven, Merry Christmas from Arise, and Decade) and is currently working a new one. When the new CD is finished it will contain original Arise songs and contemporary worship music.
